The artistic Work of me, Iria ?iek?a, born near Arctic Ocean in North Lapland, takes into consideration ethnic minorities, a voyage of discovery to the roots of one`s own culture. It can also take place far from where one was born both chronologically and geographically.

The culture of Lapland is not well known, apart from its natural wonders, such as the midnight sun and the Aurora Borealis. The Lap region occupies approximately one third of the entire surface of Finland and the territory populated by Laps extends into the northern regions of Norway, Sweden and the Russian peninsula of Cola. ”European Indians” is another name for the minority group of Laps, but today the inhabitants of the extreme North are generally called ”Sami” and not the Laps.

I`m an artist by force of circumstance. Just as shamans used to be elected among the Sami, I`ve been elected to be an artist, I`m a modern healer.”
